FOUNDER
The KIMS Foundation and Research Centre (KFRC) was founded in 2010 by Dr. B. Bhaskar Rao, an eminent cardiothoracic surgeon who is the Managing Director of KIMS (Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences) Hospitals, Secunderabad. KFRC is an autonomous not for profit research organization registered as a charitable trust. KIMS is one of the largest corporate healthcare groups in AP and Telangana in terms of number of patients treated and treatments offered. KIMS provide multi-disciplinary integrated healthcare services and it has been a spectacular journey for KIMS from a small hospital of 150 beds to a major corporate chain of hospitals in both Telugu states with over 3000 beds spanning across 13 branches and ever-increasing footfall.

Dr. V. Bhujanga Rao, Distinguished Scientist and Former Director General, DRDO and Former ISRO Chair Professor took over as the Chairman, KFRC with effect from October 01, 2021.
Dr. V. Bhujanga Rao is also the Chief Designer of India’s first Cochlear Implant prosthesis undergoing human clinical trials. To date, the bionic ear is the only example of an electronic device that has successfully replaced a human sensory organ, i.e., the ear, of the profoundly deaf. This is a boon to the hearing-impaired community. Dr Bhujanga Rao with his commitment and tenacious efforts made this ground-breaking biomedical development in the country.

PAST CHAIRMAN
Prof. Kakarla Subba Rao, Past Chairman (2010 – 2020), KIMS Foundation and Research Centre (KFRC), Secunderabad. He was an Indian radiologist who served as the first director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad.
He breathed his last on 16th April 2021 at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of large number of dedicated students and professionals who were taught and inspired by him.

ABOUT KFRC
KFRC is a recognized research centre by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India to support and participate in activities related to research, education and training in different disciplines of Biomedical Sciences. KFRC laboratories are located in KIMS premises and function as an autonomous research organization not for profit, charitable trust. At present KFRC is engaged in projects related to medical genetics, stem cell research, regenerative medicine and clinical application of cell based therapies. KFRC is drawing up plans to expand into medical devices in the future.
